Although the Shibuya River appears encased in concrete, a quiet diversity of life persists—algae, microorganisms, plants rooted in embankment gaps, and small creatures inhabiting these hidden spaces. This project visualizes these ecosystems through an outdoor installation centered on moving image, inviting viewers to re-experience the Umwelt embedded in the city. Through biological research—including underwater surveys, microscopic analysis of samples, and DNA sequencing—metaPhorest has deepened its understanding of the river’s ecology. These insights underpin an installation that reveals overlooked urban nature and creates a space to reconsider human–environment relations.
